“Dhaman” releases its monthly economic newsletter for August, covering 144 countries, including 21 Arab countries

Arab Investment and Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (Dhaman) issued its monthly economic newsletter for August 2024, which covers 144 countries, including 21 Arab ones, based on the database of the PRS survey. The bulletin is as follows:

  • The evolution of top 10 indicators monitoring a state’s economic performance and their change during the month compared to the previous month.
  • The assessment of the performance of each indicator with a maximum score of 5, 10 or 15, depending on the indicator, and the closer the value to the maximum, the better the performance.
  • Dhaman uses a color system (green for the best performance - yellow for the intermediate performance - red for the worst performance) to make the results more readable and comparable.
  • Presenting a diagram showing the evolution of the indicator's performance in the last five years, as well as August 2024.

Jordan was chosen as an example to show its indicators in August 2024, which resulted in:

  1. Per capita income in USD: $4584 (1/5 - below the global average).
  2. Current account as % of GDP: (-4.8%)(10/15 - above the global average).
  3. Government budget balance as % of GDP: (-5.9%) (5/10 - the global average).
  4. Foreign debt as % of GDP: 81.1% (3.5/10 - below the global average).
  5. Foreign debt service as % of merchandise exports and services: 20.1% (8/10 - very close to the best performance in the world).
  6. International liquidity as months of import cover: 7.5 months (3.5/5 - above the global average).
  7. Exchange rate stability (change rate %): 0% (10/10 - the best in the world).
  8. Real annual GDP growth : 2.4% (7.5/10 - above the global average).
  9. Inflation rate (annual change %): 2.1% (9.5/10 - very close to the best performance in the world).
  10. Current account as % of merchandise exports and services: (-9.3%) (11.5/15 - very close to the best performance in the world).
